Library

This is still a very rough outline of this project.

Logline

Librarian accidentally falls over a ledge in the Library of Babel. Animated using paintings.

Synopsis

The film follows a librarian at the Library of Babel - an infinite library that contains all the texts that have been written and ever will be written. The librarian is trying to organise books on a high shelf, his ladder gives way and he falls off the ledge, dragging the shelf along with him.

This leads to him falling infinitely with a collection of books falling alongside him. He skims through some of the books, and they contain mainly gibberish with sections of text that are popular lines from famous novels/plays/speeches/etc.

It is a sort of literary collage in the form of books. An example of a passage would be “We know what we are, but know not what we may be. But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. Without music, life would be a mistake.”. Blending Shakespeare, Martin Luther King Jr and Nietzsche in one passage, as this is something that is possible to be written in a library of infinite texts.

Style Notes

This is an animated film created using physical paintings and drawings. An example of this can be seen in the 2017 film ‘Loving Vincent’ which was created using 65,000 paintings in the style of Van Gogh’s paintings at 12 frames per second, totalling a runtime of 1hr 34min.
